Kara MacGregor-Duke
Kara has gained extensive experience in Family Law during her career and joined our firm in May 2022 as an Associate Solicitor. Before qualifying as a Solicitor in 2017 she was a Family Law Paralegal for over 10 years. Kara trained at one of the top Legal 500 Firms in Scotland, and as a result of her experience in family law, was awarded a reduction in the length of her traineeship by the Law Society of Scotland. This is something which is rarely offered by the Law Society, and to be applicable a candidate must be able to show their significant experience.
Family Law Experience
As a Solicitor she has acted for many clients, and the majority of her work is in Family Law. This type of work is her specialism. Kara strongly believes in building a good rapport with her clients, and her clients say that they appreciate her delicate, but firm, approach and the support that she provides to them. Kara recognises that in separating, or in disputes regarding matters relating to children, this is an emotional and stressful time. Kara will try to find positive solutions for her clients, which can include thinking outside the box however, is always keen to find a proactive resolution for her clients.
Kara is a trained Collaborative Solicitor, which is a process which allows separated parties to formally separate without the threat of Court proceedings. The purpose of collaboration is to allow parties to agree together on matters of dispute in a safe environment. Kara has acted for many clients in the collaborative process, some of whom initially did not think this was a process for them. However results were achieved in a positive way allowing her clients to move on with their lives. Kara is of the view that, where possible, alternative dispute resolution should be considered. Kara is of the view that Court proceedings should only be considered where absolutely necessary.
Although Kara makes a conscious effort to try and resolve matters and keep the clients out of Court, some Court proceedings are inevitable. With that, Kara has a wealth of Court experience acting for clients in matters of financial provision upon divorce, relocation of children, adoption of children, contact and residence of children. She also has significant experience in seeking protective orders for persons who have suffered abuse.
Kara also has a keen interest in the welfare of children, and ensuring their voices are heard. Kara volunteers as a Children’s Panel Member in her home town.
